It's never too early to turn a child into an avid reader. My 25 month old son loves books especially if they have trains, trucks, or ducks in them. I feel this is due to the fact he has three older sisters who are always reading to him. When the mail arrived yesterday I was super excited to find that our first book from Dolly Parton's Imagination Library had arrived! It was none other than The Little Engine that Could! My son sat on the floor and immediately started flipping through the pages. The youngest of our girls couldn't wait to start reading it to him.
Imagination Library is an amazing program that was started in 1996 that sends one book each month to children under the age of five. In 2000 the Imagination Library program became a National Organization and now in 2012 there are over 636,000 children registered! Some can register by going online to the website http://www.imaginationlibrary.com/#, while others should visit that website and find their local chapter. It takes only a few minutes out of your day to register your child. I simply printed out the paperwork and mailed it in to our local chapter here in Fayetteville NC. There are still some areas that do not have local chapters or online registration...so if you or someone you know is interested in starting a program in your community please visit the website for that information as well.
